On 08 November 2023, Ms. Chihomi Hashimoto and Ms. Ikue Maasai of Cattle Co., Ltd., visited the Embassy to provide feedback on their recent trip to Tanzania, held from 27 September to 27 October 2023. Their visit to Tanzania was mainly based on exploring opportunities in the moringa trade.

While in Tanzania, Ms. Hashimoto and Ms. Maasai seized the opportunity to visit moringa farms in Kabuku area in Tanga. The duo also paid a visit to the renowned Organic Moringa Herbal Clinic located in Arusha, where they were given an exclusive sneak peek into the production process of various moringa products. Following their visit, they secured a contract with the factory to sell their moringa products in Japan, which includes oil, honey, tea, tea masala, powder, capsules, and Baomozera, a mixture of moringa, baobab, and hibiscus.

Enthused by their experience, Ms. Hashimoto and Ms. Maasai shared their plans to launch the products in Japan as a pilot project by the end of this year. Their primary markets will be Tokyo, Kanagawa and Saitama Prefectures, as well as online platform.

Ms. Hashimoto and Ms. Maasai revealed that they chose to do business with Tanzania because of their relations with Sakura Girls' Secondary School in Arusha. They further revealed that their company upholds the education of Tanzanian girls and supports three (03) Sakura school graduates in Tanzanian universities, namely the University of Dar es Salaam and Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Institute.

The duo confidently believe that moringa from Tanzania will be highly sought after in Japan, given the Japanese’ preference for herbal products. They also highlighted that moringa products are already being exported from some African and Asian countries, so moringa from Tanzania will be their new brand.

The Embassy appreciated for the detailed feedback provided by Ms. Hashimoto and Ms. Maasai regarding their visit to Tanzania, particularly on introducing the new product in Japan, which is moringa. The Embassy assured them for the necessary support to facilitate their business with their Tanzanian counterparts, and to promote the product in Japan.
