On Tuesday, 13th December 2022, the Embassy paid a visit to Kumegawa Higashi Elementary School and gave presentation about Tanzania to a group of 80 Grade 6 students along with their teachers and other school officials. The Embassy officials were warmly welcomed by Mr. Shigeki Ashizawa, the Principal of School and Ms. Tamaki Okada, the NPO CMC Chief Director and Secretary General who is the organizer of the school visit.
Mr. Ashizawa gave a detailed presentation about his school and their outreach plans particularly, with African countries. He revealed that Kumegawa Higashi Elementary School is one of the top elementary schools in Tokyo with about 490 students enrolled. The school is also well known for its cultural programs, where students begin studying the cultures of other nations once they reach Grade 4.
In delivering a message on behalf of H.E. Ambassador Baraka Luvanda, the First Secretary Ms. Edna Chuku thanked Principal Ashizawa and his staff for their hospitality and for the promotion work about Tanzania at the school. She also conveyed appreciations to Ms. Okada for establishing CMC Project which helps Japanese students to nurture and comprehend the culture of other nations.
CMC is a short form of the “Children Meet Countries”, which is a project that is dedicated to instilling on the Japanese Children a global perspective of their understanding and respect on other cultures across the world.
The school visit was noted as having provided ideas for future exchanges between Kumegawa Higashi Elementary School and Tanzania, particularly in the areas of education and cultural exchange.
