H.E. Ambassador Luvanda, along with other fellow diplomats and ambassadors in Tokyo, attended a disaster management seminar and crisis management observation tour organized by the esteemed Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), on 17th November 2023.
The Director General of JMA, Mr. Obayashi Masanori, delivered a keynote speech that highlighted JMA's pivotal roles and objectives in line with Japan's vulnerability to a multi-hazard environment, which includes tropical cyclones, earthquakes, tsunamis, active volcanoes, landslides, heavy snow, floods, and typhoons. He informed the attendees that the purpose of the seminar was to provide foreign diplomats with an awareness of safe and secure living in Japan. He further disclosed that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program had been suspended for some time, and any other technical cooperation exchanges were postponed.
At the seminar, Mr. OBAYASHI Masanori extended an invitation to all participating countries to propose cooperation with the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). He assured them that JMA would consider the potential for technology exchange with their respective meteorological agencies when they open the window. After his remarks, the participants were given a comprehensive tour of the JMA premises to see its operations firsthand.
In his remarks, Ambassador Luvanda expressed his profound gratitude for the opportunity to learn about JMA's best practices. He informed Mr. OBAYASHI Masanori that Tanzania's Meteorological Agency (TMA) is eager to collaborate with JMA and learn from their advanced technological capabilities. Tanzania recognized that Japan is a highly advanced country in various fields, including identifying and providing early warnings when disasters occur. He revealed that Tanzania is looking forward to establishing such collaboration when Japan, through JMA, opens that window.
