His Excellency Ambassador Baraka Luvanda joined today with other Ambassadors accredited to Tokyo at the Award Ceremony and Congratulatory Party of the 2023 Blue Planet Prize held at the Otani Hotel in Tokyo.

This is a prestigious award offered by The Asahi Glass Foundation to those distinguished individuals that they consider them to have contributed significantly to the cause of environmental protection and conservation for future generations.

For this year, the foundation has settled on three UK based Professors, namely Professor Richard Thompson, OBE FRS, University of Plymouth; Professor Tamara Galloway OBE, University of Exeter, and Professor Penelope Lindeque of University of Plymouth for having shown exemplary results of their research work on the existence of microplastics in the Ocean and the solution they have offered.

In the same vein, the Foundation has acknowledged the contribution by the Belgian Professor Debarati Guha-Sapir for her exemplary contribution to the global environmental crisis through her exceptional discoveries of EM-DAT magic that has immensely stimulated climate change mitigation, adaption and disaster prevention and mitigation.

In the interaction with Ambassador Luvanda at a reception, Professor Thompson was quite excited to share his impressions about the Tanzania he has seen in just last two weeks ago after almost thirty years he has been there during his research work that has impacted hugely in his research recognition.
