Today, H.E. Ambassador Baraka Luvanda held discussions with representatives from Marino Forum 21, who visited the Chancery to share feedback on their recent trip to Tanzania. Discussions centered on their experiences during the visit in Tanzania and highlighted the success of their trip. The delegation from Marino Forum 21 included Mr. Ken Homa, Technical Adviser, and Ms. Oka Yukari, both from the Department of Overseas Fisheries Consulting Activities (OFCA), as well as Mr. Muneyuki Sasaki, Consultant of the Natural Environment Department.
The delegation informed H.E. Ambassador Luvanda that during their visit to Tanzania, they had the opportunity to engage in extensive discussions with several key stakeholders in the fisheries sector. These included the Tanzania Fisheries Corporation (TAFICO), National Fish Quality Control Laboratory (NFQCLAB), Tanzania Fisheries Research Institute (TAFIRI), Fisheries Education and Training Agency (FETA), Kirumba Fish Market, Ferry Fish Market, New Igombe Landing site, Kisoko cage site, Victoria Perch Limited, Nile Fish Net Motors, Songoro Marine Transport, and CFN Limited. It was further informed that Marino Forum 21 is planning to commence its operations in Tanzania next year.
The Government of Japan has partnered with Marino Forum 21, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to conduct a case study aimed at enhancing the cooperation between Japan and Tanzania in the fisheries industry. This partnership will help identify opportunities to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries and promote sustainable fisheries development.
H.E. Ambassador Luvanda assured Marimo Forum 21 of the Embassy's unwavering support and facilitation in the development of Tanzania's fisheries sector, and cordially welcomed them to explore other potential areas, such as Zanzibar, Lake Tanganyika, and Nyasa, during the course of their activities.
