On 4th March 2024, Ambassador Baraka Luvanda delivered an investment promotion seminar to highlight Tanzania investment opportunities to the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (OCCI), Japan's second-largest chamber of commerce. The seminar was attended by a selected group of approximately 50 members of OCCI, led by Mr. Kuroda Akihiro, the Vice-Chairman of OCCI and the Chairman of the KOKUYO Company.
At the openings, Mr. Akihiro welcomed Ambassador Luvanda for discussions with the members of OCCI, noting that several of them have significant investments or doing business in Tanzania, while others were interested in learning more about Tanzania’s business and economic landscape. He underscored that the seminar came at the appropriate time to guarantee their understanding of the favourable business environment in Tanzania.
On his part, Ambassador Luvanda expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and attendance of the seminar. He went on to provide a comprehensive presentation about Tanzania. He covered the country's recent history, geography, demography, language, religion, and political situation. He emphasized Tanzania's foreign policy and bilateral relations with Japan, which have been excellent since Tanzania gained independence in 1961.
During his presentation, Ambassador Luvanda provided an in-depth overview of Tanzania's economy, transitioning from a command economy to a market-led economy. He went on to provide an extensive presentation on various sectors including, agriculture, mining, tourism, energy, manufacturing, service, and blue economy, highlighting their potential opportunities and positive impact on Tanzania's economic growth.
Ambassador Luvanda concluded his presentation by posing the question, "Why Invest in Tanzania?” He then provided a detailed answer, pointing out the reasons and benefits of investing in Tanzania, such as the country's strategic location, political stability, abundant natural resources, a large and growing consumer market, a significant number of labour force, and a friendly investment climate. He also welcomed them to participate in the the 48th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) to be held from June 28 to July 13, for the purpose of further networking with other domestic and international markets professionals, as well as meeting with potential clients for their products and services in Tanzania.
To wrap up the program, participants also had an opportunity to follow on two presentations from the two Japanese companies operating in Tanzania namely, Baraka Company and Baridi Baridi Co. Ltd which is the member company of DAIKIN Group. The two presentations provided an excellent understanding of the potential of investing in and doing business with Tanzania.
