On Friday 24th June 2022, H.E. Baraka H. Luvanda received the representatives of the Asia-Pacific and Africa Women’s Economic Exchange Association at the Chancery. The delegation was led by Ms. Fukuyo Nakamori, Chairperson of Asia Pacific and Africa Women’s Economic Association and former Member of the House of Representatives (Japan) who was accompanied by Mr. Hisashige Aoki, Secretary General and Ms. Hatsuko Yamamoto, member of the Secretariat.

After the exchange of courtesies, Ms. Nakamori updated Ambassador Luvanda on the upcoming 1st Asia - Pacific and Africa Women’s Economic Exchange Summit to be held in Tokyo on 28 November – 1 December 2022.  The Summit was initially scheduled to take place in March 2022 but was postponed due to COVID 19 infections across Japan at that time. Ms. Nakamori stressed that the Summit will be attended by the First Ladies from Asia-Pacific and African countries to discuss and devise ways to support each other as mothers in various issues affecting children including, the impact of food security on children. 

She also reiterated that the need to provide emergency food assistance and COVID – 19 health care supports to protect children is a matter of utmost priority and serious consideration. She further highlighted those poor harvests caused by the desert locust plague in the Sub Sahara African countries, the effects of global climate change as well as COVID-19 infectious, and other disasters, have greatly affected food security for children throughout the region. She expressed her hopes that the Summit would go a long way in ensuring food self – sufficiency for children and in building cooperation system in times of disaster for the sake of the children's future. 

In his remarks, Ambassador Luvanda commended Ms. Nakamori for her initiative and dedication towards the success of the Summit. He also expressed his hope that the Summit would address the dire needs of the day as underscored by Ms. Nakamori and assured her of the Embassy’s cooperation to ensure the participation of Tanzania at the Summit at an appropriate high level.
