On 9th February 2024, Ambassador Baraka Luvanda paid an official visit to the Christchurch City Council in Christchurch New Zealand, where he engaged in productive discussions with Deputy Mayor Ms. Pauline Cotter. The duo deliberated on a wide range of bilateral interactions and explored the potential for establishing sister city relationships between Christchurch and cities in Tanzania.
The discussions encompassed a multitude of topics including, strategies for advancing economic development, exploring opportunities for reciprocal investment, enhancing bilateral trade relations, and fostering cultural exchange initiatives between the two parties.
Deputy Mayor Cotter took the opportunity to show Ambassador Luvanda around Christchurch City. She expressed her keen interest in the prospect of sister city relationships between Christchurch and cities in Tanzania, pending a comprehensive analysis. She informed Ambassador Luvanda that Christchurch is well known for its stunning landscapes, historic architecture, and winemaking.
On his part, Ambassador Luvanda warmly embraced the notion of establishing sister city relationships and extended an invitation for Deputy Mayor Cotter to visit Tanzania. He informed her that Christchurch shares striking resemblances with many cities in Tanzania in terms of landscapes and climate which provided a mutual benefit for building such links.
