On May 20th, 2023, the Embassy, in collaboration with UCC Holdings Co. Ltd and the Ring of National Anthem Association, hosted a colorful Tanzania coffee promotion event named "The Tanzania Coffee Day" at the UCC premises in Akasaka, Tokyo.
A group of around 25 coffee experts from Tokyo gathered to taste the best four coffee samples from Tanzania, which were served on the day, illustrating four different Tanzania coffee production zones and geographical diversity: the North, South, West, and Lake zones.
In his welcoming remarks to the audience, H.E. Ambassador Luvanda expressed his gratitude to the co-organizers of the event for coming up with the concept of countries special coffee gatherings, for putting it into practice, and for choosing Tanzania to honor the uniqueness and distinctiveness of the Tanzanian Coffee which is well loved in Japan.
He further conveyed his appreciation to the audience for attending the event, which gave them the chance to learn more about the unique characteristics of Tanzanian coffee, the country's rich cultural heritages, and its numerous intriguing tourist attractions.
The event was a vibrant one filled with engaging conversations, top-notch coffee tastings, and fascinating information about Tanzania's tourism attractions, history, and culture. It was concluded successfully with attendees expressed interest in Tanzanian coffee as well as intentions to travel to Tanzania for both leisure and business-related activities.
The Embassy intends to organize a number coffee-related activities across prefectures of Japan aimed for promoting and connecting three aspects that highlight Tanzania distinctive identity in Japan: tourism; culture; and coffee, which is widely known in Japan under the brand and market name, Kilimanjaro Coffee.
