In the wake of the successful conclusion of the World Specialty Coffee Conference and Exhibition (SCAJ 2023) which held on 27 – 29 September 2023 at Tokyo Big Sight, Tanzanian coffee companies engaged in cordial and constructive discussions with Japanese food-related companies in Tokyo.
The discussions involved several key players, including: UCC Holdings, who were present at the Tanzania booth during SCAJ 2023 on 28th September 2023; ITO-EN, ITOCHU Co. Ltd and MARUBENI on 2nd October 2023 at their respective premises in Tokyo; and KANEMATSU Co. Ltd on 3rd October 2023 at the Embassy. The Tanzania coffee related companies involved in the discussions were Kagera Cooperative Union (KCU), Kamal Agro, Ubumwe Company and Interbulk Packaging Company who were accompanied by Ms. Edna Dioniz Chuku, First Secretary of the Embassy (Economic Affairs).
The talks primarily focused on enhancing the trade volumes of Tanzanian coffee, promoting high-quality coffee that meets the market's exacting standards, and advancing the prosperity of coffee-growing communities in Tanzania.
The Tanzanian companies expressed their warm welcome to the Japanese companies and encouraged them to explore and expand their trading and investment activities in Tanzania. They highlighted the importance of cooperation and collaboration in achieving these objectives and expressed their commitment to building sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships with their Japanese counterparts.
All parties had a friendly discussion and expressed a desire to work together towards their shared goals. The meetings were the great success, and participants left feeling optimistic about the future of Tanzanian coffee and its potential to contribute to the prosperity of both Tanzania and Japan.
