Tanzania is participating in the Africa Down Under Conference (ADU), which is currently taking place in Perth, Australia from September 4 - 6, 2024. Hon. Anthony Mavunde (MP), Minister for Minerals is heading the Tanzania delegation on behalf of H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania who was initially invited to the Conference. Hon. Mavunde was also accompanied by H.E. Baraka Luvanda, Ambassador of Tanzania in Japan with concurrent accreditation to Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

ADU is the leading forum for Australian-African business and government relations and was first launched to raise awareness of Australia’s interests in African mining and energy. The three day meeting has evolved to become the largest African-focused mining event held outside the continent itself which is reflected by the number of high-profile participants who attend each year.

During the opening session, Hon. Mavunde derivered a Statement on the situation of mining sector, its development, opportunities and challenges that the Government is working hand in hand in collaboration with investors to resolve.  His speech was proceeded by speech of Hon. Tim Watts, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia who opened the meeting and welcomed all participants in Australia. He highlighted importance of the meeting and also presented video message from Hon. Penny Wong with a strong message pointing out the importance of the conference and Africa in general.

Tanzania is looking forward to actively participating in this important conference, and also holding fruitful discussions and exchanges with Australian mining companies investing in Tanzania.
