On the 22nd of May, 2024, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation of Tanzania, Hon. January Yusuf Makamba (MP), had bilateral discussions with Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Kiyoto Tsuji , at the Foreign Office in Dar es Salaam.

During the deliberations, the two ministers addressed various topics, including development cooperation, business and trade. They also deliberated on Japan's upcoming major events in 2025, specifically the EXPO 2025 OSAKA KANSAI and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

Minister Tsuji's visit to Tanzania held particular significance, as he acknowledged that it marked his first official visit to Africa since assuming office as the State Minister last September, with Tanzania being his inaugural port of call.

In response, Minister Makamba conveyed appreciation to Japan for its role as a strategic development partner. Both ministers reached a consensus on the considerable history of the relationship between Japan and Tanzania and underscored the necessity to further harness this relationship, particularly in the domains of trade, investment, tourism, and diplomatic relations.
