On 8 December 2025, H.E. Anderson Mutatembwa, together with Ambassadors and diplomats from SADC Member States accredited to Japan, welcomed H.E. Elias Magosi, Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), during an official engagement in Tokyo. The welcoming meeting was held at the Embassy of Malawi in Tokyo (the Dean of SADC).

The meeting aimed at strengthening SADC–Japan cooperation, with particular focus on trade, investment, infrastructure development, energy, water, industrialization, private-sector engagement, and human capital development. The Executive Secretary briefed the diplomatic community on priority regional projects, implementation of the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020–2030), and ongoing efforts to enhance regional integration through corridors, energy interconnectors, water infrastructure, and value-chain development.

Discussions also reflected on the outcomes of TICAD 9, underscoring the need for improved project packaging, timely decision-making, and stronger collaboration with Japanese public and private-sector stakeholders. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of SADC Ambassadors in Japan to support initiatives that promote sustainable development, regional integration, and increased Japanese investment in the SADC region.

H.E. Magosi was in Japan on a five-day working visit, during which he was scheduled to hold engagements with a wide range of Japanese stakeholders from both the Government and Private Sectors to strengthen further SADC–Japan relations, promote investment and trade, and explore areas of cooperation.
