On 15 December 2025, H.E. Anderson Mutatembwa welcomed a delegation from TOYO Engineering Co. Ltd of Japan at the Chancery in Tokyo for a cordial and constructive meeting to explore potential areas of cooperation between Tanzania and the Japanese engineering firm.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador Mutatembwa thanked the delegation for taking the time to visit the Embassy and share insights into TOYO Engineering’s global operations and technical expertise. He highlighted Tanzania’s commitment to promoting economic diplomacy, trade, and investment, and underscored the importance of engaging reputable international companies in priority sectors of the Tanzanian economy.
On their part, the TOYO Engineering delegation provided a comprehensive presentation on TOYO Engineering’s background, global footprint, and over 60 years of experience in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), particularly in fertilizer, petrochemical, clean energy, and geothermal projects. The presentation highlighted its longstanding support for Tanzania’s Natural Gas Utilization Master Plan through Japanese cooperation frameworks, including JICA, since 2014. The company outlined its technical expertise in fertilizer (ammonia and urea) and methanol production as viable value chains for monetizing Tanzania’s natural gas resources in the short- to medium-term, alongside long-term LNG development.
The delegation further underscored opportunities for collaboration in geothermal energy, noting Tanzania’s significant geothermal potential as well as TOYO Engineering’s experience in Asian countries, where it has implemented multiple geothermal projects and innovative carbon-neutral development concepts. TOYO Engineering expressed readiness to support Tanzania from the early stages of project development, including master planning, feasibility studies, and capacity building, as well as exploring financing options under Japanese support mechanisms.
H.E. Mutatembwa welcomed the presentation and acknowledged the relevance of TOYO Engineering’s expertise to Tanzania’s development priorities, particularly in agriculture productivity, fertilizer availability, renewable energy, and the Government’s Mission 300 initiative to expand electricity access. He noted that agriculture remains the backbone of Tanzania’s economy and stressed the strategic importance of domestic fertilizer production in boosting productivity, food security, and rural livelihoods.
The meeting also discussed possible implementation modalities, including EPC, PPP, and IPP arrangements, as well as the importance of engaging relevant Tanzanian institutions such as the Ministry of Energy, TPDC, TGDC, and fertilizer-related authorities.
H.E. Mutatembwa assured the delegation that the Embassy would facilitate linkages with the appropriate government stakeholders in Tanzania to advance technical discussions. He reaffirmed Tanzania’s openness to working with credible Japanese companies and welcomed further technical exchanges and potential follow-up missions to Tanzania.
