On Friday 18th March 2022, H. E. Ambassador Baraka Luvanda received Mr. Shigeharu Uchiya, Mayor of Nagai City who paid a courtesy call on him at the Chancery in Tokyo. Mayor Uchiyawas accompanied by: Mr. Toshhiro Takeda, Division Chief of Nagai City Policy and Planning; Mr. Taira Naoto, Chief General Policy Division; Mr. Masaki Suzuki, General Policy Division in charge of the TOKYO 2020 Games Host Town Initiative; Mr. Maguzu Charles, General Policy Division, JET Sports Exchange Advisor; and Ms. Tokoro Riho, Interpreter. Ambassador Luvanda was joined in the meeting by Mr. John Kambona; Mr.Greyson Ishengoma; and Mr. Hosea Chikolongo.

Mayor Uchiya appreciated for the opportunity availed to him and his delegation by Ambassador Luvanda and expressed his gratitude to the Embassy for facilitating a good and long relationship that exists between Nagai City and Tanzania. He further expressed his gratitude that the relationship between the City of Nagai and Tanzania has been mutually beneficial including through bilateral exchange of experts and high-leveldelegations from the two sides. He therefore expressed his desire of scaling up these exchanges and he invited Ambassador Luvanda to visit the city at an early opportunity.

On his part, Ambassador Luvanda appreciated for the visit byMayor Uchiya and his delegation and welcomed them to the Embassy, asserting that Tanzania is their second home. He also applauded the long friendly relations that exists between Tanzania and the City of Nagai which in essence reflects well the historical bilateral relationship and the chemistry that existbetween Tanzania and Japan since 1970s.  

In the same vein, Ambassador Luvanda expressed hisappreciation for Nagai City hosting Tanzanian Team during theOlympics Games in 2021, the after which a sports exchange program has been established. Ambassador Luvanda commended Mr. Charles Maguzu for taking advantage of the opportunity presented through this program. He also implored for more such opportunities in future, underlining the fact that sports have become an essential tool of contemporarydiplomacy.

Ambassador Luvanda also commended on the Mayo for his willingness and consideration of establishing sistership framework between Nagai City and Dodoma Municipality, stating that there is a lot of potential in this collaboration as Dodoma has become the Capital of Tanzania with vast opportunities in various aspects which would be beneficial to both sides.

Mayor Uchiya appreciated for the positive comments of Ambassador Luvanda regarding the establishment of sistership relations between Nagai and Dodoma Cities and promised to explore the opportunities for collaboration in sports and cultural exchange as well as economic activities. He also indicated that he would be visiting Tanzania with a delegation later in August this year to activate the cooperation arrangement.

Ambassador Luvanda assured the Mayor that Tanzania has opened its borders for visitors after putting in place all the necessary COVID-19 protocols and regulations as well as a safe and secure environment for movement of persons, goods and services.
