From 8th to 10th February 2024, Ambassador Luvanda engaged in meetings with two Chambers of Commerce and one Business Association of New Zealand in Wellington and Christchurch. The objective was to promote Tanzania business opportunities to New Zealand investors and enterprises. The meetings transpired as follows:
On 8th February 2024 in Wellington, the Ambassador met with Mr. Karun Shenoy, President of Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The discussions centered on strengthening connections between businesses in Tanzania and New Zealand investors through the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, which boasts over 1,000 members. Both parties exchanged ideas regarding potential trade platforms and business matching to facilitate increased interaction and cooperation especially in areas of tourism, services, and manufacturing.
Likewise, on 9th February 2024 in Christchurch, Ambassador Luvanda met with Mr. Daniel Thomson, Business and Trade Advisor of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce. They discussed potential partnership opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, livestock, clean energy, blue economy, manufacturing, and mining. The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce is part of a powerful New Zealand business network with over 2,700 members, including business companies and not-for-profit organizations, on which several of them are operating in Tanzania.
On 10th February 2024, Ambassador Luvanda concluded his working visit in Christchurch with a discussion involving representatives from the Africa - New Zealand Business Association, led by Mr. Jonas Frey, Chief of Staff of OSACO Group. The discussions focused towards enhancing commercial links, identify investment possibilities and build a business network, utilizing the benefits of the Association's involvement with African countries.
Over the course of the discussions in all three meetings, Ambassador Luvanda highlighted Tanzania's trade and investment prospects, stressing the country's advantageous circumstances for international firms to invest in and/or conduct business with Tanzania. The meetings accomplished with the planning to hold a Tanzania and New Zealand Business Forum during the second half of 2024.
