On 28 November 2024, H.E. Ambassador Baraka Luvanda hosted and presided over the African Diplomatic Corps (ADC), representing their respective countries in Japan, during their regular monthly meeting to discuss various matters related to the host country, Japan. One of the critical subjects addressed was the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) initiative, which has been instrumental in strengthening Japan-Africa relations since its inception in 1993.
The meeting featured a special guest, Prof. Mieko Ikegame, Special Advisor to the CEO of the African Union’s NEPAD Agency. Prof. Ikegame shared valuable insights into ongoing developments and prospects of TICAD, highlighting its role in promoting sustainable development, economic growth, and cooperation between Japan and African countries.
Discussions included reflections on past TICAD conferences, the impact of initiatives launched under its framework, and strategies for enhancing collaboration in infrastructure, health, education, and technology. Ambassadors also explored ways to strengthen partnerships and mobilize resources to tackle pressing challenges African countries face.
The meeting stressed the significance of continuous dialogue and cooperation between Japan and African countries, aiming to create a more prosperous and sustainable future through the TICAD initiative and other collaborative efforts.
