On Thursday 23rd June 2022, the Dar es Salaam Liaison Office General Manager of Mitsubishi Corporation, Mr. Kenji Nishizaki paid a courtesy call on H.E. Ambassador Baraka Luvanda. He was accompanied by Mr. Shotaro Mori from Europe and Africa Global Strategy and Coordination Department. The courtesy meeting was also attended by Embassy officers namely, Mr. Greyson Ishengoma and Mr. Hosea Chikolongo.
After the exchange of courtesies, Mr. Nishizaki thanked Ambassador Luvanda for receiving him and explained the purpose of his visit as introducing himself and also to brief him on various development in pursuit of their projects in Tanzania. Among other notable developments, Mr. Nishizaki informed the meeting that the longstanding issue of tax exemption on ODA and non-ODA imports has now been resolved, paving the way for its finalization to allow smooth execution of projects in Tanzania. He was therefore hopeful that the Government Notice to effect the settlement of the matter would be forthcoming soon.
Ambassador Luvanda expressed his delight on hearing this development and promised to follow up closely on the proposed steps.
Mr. Nishizaki further informed that apart from power transmission project that Mitsubishi is implementing in Tanzania, it is also involved in export of sesame from Tanzania, in partnership with two Japanese companies namely: Kadoya Sesame Mills; and Takemoto Oil and Fat Co. On this note, he informed the meeting that the company in collaboration with Afrisian Company is undertaking some educational trainings and awareness to farmers in Dabalo, Chamwino, Dodoma on how to realize high yield of sesame and more importantly on proper usage of fertilizers and pesticides. Besides, Mitsubishi is involved in the construction of water wells in the area in pursuance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
Ambassador Luvanda appreciated for the briefing and thanked the company for the good work is doing in Tanzania.
