On 18th December 2025, H.E. Ambassador Anderson Mutatembwa received a delegation of three representatives from Fukui Prefecture at the Chancery. The delegation was led by Mr. Maeda Kosaku, Vice – Director of FUKUI Prefectural Government.
The meeting aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and exploring potential areas of cooperation between Fukui Prefecture and Tanzania. The Fukui Prefecture delegation made a comprehensive presentation highlighting the Prefecture’s geographical location, cultural heritage, tourism attractions, transport connectivity, key industries, agriculture, fisheries, and traditional crafts. Particular emphasis was placed on Fukui’s globally renowned Dinosaur Museum, coastal tourism, agricultural products, sports events, especially the Fukui Sakura Marathon, and its strong eyeglasses manufacturing industry, which accounts for over 90 percent of Japan’s domestically produced eyewear.
In his remarks, Ambassador Mutatembwa welcomed the delegation and commended Fukui Prefecture for its rich cultural heritage and economic strengths. He noted several areas of shared interest between Tanzania and Fukui Prefecture, including tourism, coastal resources, agriculture, sports development, and heritage conservation. The Ambassador expressed particular interest in Fukui’s expertise in dinosaur research and preservation, noting Tanzania’s own significant dinosaur fossil discoveries, especially in the Lindi Region, and underscored the potential for future collaboration in research, museum development, and capacity building.
Ambassador Mutatembwa also highlighted Tanzania’s strengths in athletics and expressed interest in encouraging Tanzanian athletes to participate in the Fukui Sakura Marathon in future editions. Furthermore, he welcomed opportunities for people-to-people exchanges, study visits, and institutional linkages between Fukui Prefecture and relevant Tanzanian institutions.
The Fukui Prefecture delegation, for their part, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reiterated their interest in deepening engagement with Tanzania. They highlighted Fukui Prefecture’s ongoing efforts to promote international exchange and indicated readiness to facilitate visits by Embassy officials to Fukui Prefecture, including meetings with local authorities, cultural institutions, and tourism sites.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close communication and explore concrete avenues for cooperation, including potential reciprocal visits and information sharing.
