On 11th December 2023, a delegation of six (06) officials from Tanzania visited the Embassy, accompanied by four (04) officers from JICA Headquarters in Tokyo and JICA Tanzania Office in Dar es Salaam. The delegation was led by Mr. Aboud Mwinyi, Deputy Principal Secretary of Zanzibar President's Office, and comprised representatives from the Zanzibar President's Office responsible for Finance and Planning; Tanzania Ministry of Finance; and Zanzibar Water Authority (ZAWA). Other high-ranking officials in attendance included Dr. Salha Mohammed Kassim, Director - General of ZAWA, and Mr. Melckzedek Mbise, Deputy Commissioner at the Ministry of Finance.
After the courtesies, the delegation conveyed that the objective of their tour was to visit institutions involved in the water supply business in Japan for knowledge transfer. They planned to conduct site inspections and meetings to promote the smooth facilitation of joint projects. The delegation informed that they intended to conduct water site inspections and meetings in Kumamoto, have a seminar at the JICA Headquarters in Tokyo, and conclude their tour in Japan on December 15, 2023.
The delegation further informed that their mission was in response to Tanzania's request for the facilitation of eight projects submitted in TICAD 8. The projects included six (06) related to water, on which three (03) were from Zanzibar. The projects aimed to improve the water supply facility in Zanzibar through Official Development Assistance (ODA) and manage water resources in Zanzibar through technical cooperation.
The TICAD 8’s three submitted water projects from Zanzibar were; the establishment of a laboratory and certification system in Zanzibar, the construction of four modern fishing ports in Zanzibar, and the rehabilitation and expansion of Wete Port.
The Embassy was delighted to receive the delegation and extended its support towards the delegation's mission.
