On 19th November 2023, in promoting Tanzanian coffee in Japan, the Embassy participated in the launch of Tanzania coffee from Karatu, Manyara branded as Ngila Coffee at NERICAFE coffee restaurants in Tokyo. The event was held in conjunction with the Tanzania Fair, which aimed at showcasing the country's tourism, trade, and investment opportunities to NERICAFE customers.

At the launch event, H.E. Ambassador Baraka Luvanda was represented by Ms. Edna Dioniz Chuku - Embassy' First Secretary, who was also accompanied by other Embassy staff. The event commenced with a brief exposition on the commercial relationship between NERICAFE and Tanzanian coffee producers, presented by Ms. Yukiko Takenaka, the Managing Director of NERICAFE. The Embassy also provided detailed information about Tanzania, including its tourism, trade, and investment opportunities.

Ms. Takenaka further disclosed that NERICAFE has been procuring Tanzanian coffee ever since encountering it at the World Specialty Coffee Conference and Exhibition (SCAJ) in 2022. Since then, they have visited Tanzania to explore new markets and coffee plantations. She revealed that on average, they have already procured approximately 5 tons of Tanzanian coffee from Ngila Estates. Ms. Takenaka further revealed that NERICAFE has plans to augment its reach by opening new branches outside Tokyo, which will enhance the sale of Tanzanian coffee in their restaurants.

Ms. Chuku commended NERICAFE for their cooperation and endeavors in promoting Tanzanian coffee to Japanese consumers; and reiterated its commitment to providing continued support and assistance to NERICAFE in advancing its trade with Ngila farmers and connecting with other coffee producers in Tanzania.
