On 8 December 2025, the Embassy joined other members of the diplomatic community in paying tribute to the legacy of the late Mr. Yoshinobu Tamai, Founder and President of the Ashinaga Foundation. The commemorative event honored Mr. Tamai’s lifelong dedication to supporting orphans and disaster-affected children through education, both in Japan and internationally, including Africa.

Speakers and messages highlighted Mr. Tamai’s profound humanitarian contribution, his commitment to nurturing ethical leadership among young people, and the lasting impact of Ashinaga’s scholarship programs, particularly in Africa. The event underscored the Foundation’s role in empowering vulnerable children through education and character development, as well as its continued commitment to advancing these ideals.

The Embassy also engaged with participants during the event, reflecting the importance of people-to-people connections, shared humanitarian values, and continued collaboration in education and social development. Tanzania has benefited from the Ashinaga Foundation scholarship program, with a number of undergraduate students supported since the program’s introduction in Africa in 2014.
