Today, 12th November 2025, the Embassy joined other African diplomats, the Government of Japan, and various stakeholders in welcoming the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, during a reception held in his honour.
Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, who officially assumed office on 1st September 2025, marks the beginning of a new era for the African Development Bank Group. The event served as a platform to reaffirm the long-standing partnership between Africa and Japan, particularly through the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) framework.
The AfDB plays a pivotal role as one of the core co-organizers of the TICAD initiative, working alongside the Government of Japan, UNDP, the World Bank, and the African Union Commission. This collaboration continues to advance Africa’s development priorities by promoting investment, industrialization, and sustainable growth across the continent.
Through such engagements, the partnership between the AfDB and Japan, under the TICAD framework, remains instrumental in fostering inclusive development, enhancing Africa–Japan cooperation, and strengthening mutual efforts toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
