On November 28, 2025, H.E. Anderson Mutatembwa welcomed Mr. James Odera, Projects Manager G1, Africa Power & Infrastructure Department from Toyota Tsusho Corporation, to discuss current and potential collaboration between Tanzania and Toyota Tsusho, focusing on infrastructure, mobility, energy, water, and trade development.

Mr. Odera provided a comprehensive briefing on Toyota Tsusho’s global and African operations. He highlighted the company's activities in Tanzania, particularly in mobility through Toyota Tanzania, the official distributor of Toyota vehicles, and its partnership with CFAO Mobility Tanzania, which deals in Volkswagen, Fuso, and Suzuki vehicles. In the healthcare sector, Toyota Tsusho is involved with Laborex, providing logistical support for the medical and pharmaceutical supply chain.

Mr. Odera also mentioned that Toyota Tsusho is exploring new investments aligned with green infrastructure and consumer business strategies. In the energy sector, discussions are underway with TANESCO to develop the Miombo Hewani Wind Farm Project and to enhance power transmission in Dodoma and Dar es Salaam, with a particular focus on stabilizing power in Dodoma as a high-priority opportunity. He added that the company is considering unsolicited proposals under JBIC financing, which would allow for shorter implementation timelines than those supported by JICA. He also informed the attendees about a mission conducted by Toyota Tsusho in Tanzania in June 2025, during which meetings were held with the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Water, the Ministry of Transport, and various other agencies. The mission included a visit to Tanga to explore opportunities in ports and water.

H.E. Anderson Mutatembwa appreciated the comprehensive briefing from Toyota Tsusho and affirmed the Embassy’s commitment to fast-tracking follow-up on pending MOUs and projects. The Ambassador encouraged Toyota Tsusho to consider Tanzania a priority destination, emphasizing the country’s strategic location in East Africa and the Government’s readiness to facilitate significant investments. He reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to follow up with the Ministry of Energy, TANESCO, TISEZA, and other government stakeholders.

The meeting reaffirmed Toyota Tsusho’s strong interest in expanding its presence in Tanzania across key sectors, including energy, water, mobility, port development, and industrial supply chains. The Embassy expressed its firm commitment to supporting the company in accelerating the realization of strategic projects.
