On 31 March 2026, the Embassy welcomed a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. During the visit, the delegation shared information regarding Japan’s candidate, Prof. Teraya Koji, who is seeking re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Committee (CCPR) for the 2026–2030 term. 

The Embassy received the request and has taken it forward for consideration in line with established procedures. The election is scheduled to take place in New York, United States of America, in June 2026. Representing the Embassy was Ms. Edna Dioniz Chuku, Counsellor of Economic Affairs, and Mr. Hosea Chikolongo, Political and Cultural Attaché.
