On December 4, 2025, His Excellency Anderson Mutatembwa had a lunch meeting with His Excellency Yasushi Misawa, the Ambassador in charge of the Kansai Region, during Ambassador Mutatembwa official visit to Osaka. Ambassador Misawa previously served as Japan's Ambassador to Tanzania from 2022 to 2025. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Kazusue Konoike, Honorary Consul of Tanzania in Osaka, and Ms. Edna Dioniz Chuku, Counsellor for Economic Affairs.

During the course of the discussions, Ambassador Misawa shared his extensive knowledge of Tanzania, reflecting on his experiences and providing significant historical insights. He recounted various interactions during his tenure, which included engagement with Tanzanian schools, cultural institutions, and government officials. His enthusiasm for Tanzanian history and culture was evident as he shared narratives regarding the country's rich cultural heritage, the preservation of cultural traditions in Zanzibar, and Japan's contributions to cultural projects facilitated through UNESCO.

The conversation also addressed people-to-people relations, the Tanzanian community in Japan, cultural similarities, cuisine, and sports exchanges. They explored opportunities for enhancing cooperation in athletics, baseball, and other fields. Ambassador Misawa underscored the robust foundation for ongoing cooperation between Japan and Tanzania at both national and local government levels, particularly within the Kansai region.

On his part, H.E. Mutatembwa expressed sincere appreciation to Ambassador Misawa for his longstanding dedication to strengthening Japan–Tanzania relations. He commended the Ambassador’s deep understanding of Tanzania and acknowledged the valuable role he played in advancing cooperation in education, culture, and economic diplomacy during his tenure in Dar es Salaam. Ambassador Mutatembwa also reaffirmed the commitment of the Embassy of Tanzania in Tokyo to further deepening bilateral relations, including expanding opportunities for investment, academic collaboration, and city-level partnerships with the Kansai region. He emphasized the Embassy’s readiness to continue working closely with Ambassador Misawa, the Honorary Consulate in Osaka, and other stakeholders to promote mutual interests and elevate the partnership between the two countries to greater heights.
