POSITION : ECONOMIC COOPERATION ADVISOR 
STATION  : EMBASSY OF THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA IN JAPAN

The Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Japan, based in Tokyo, invites applications from qualified and motivated individuals for the position of Economic Cooperation Advisor, as a local based staff (one (1) position).

Main Purpose of the Position
The Economic Cooperation Advisor will support the Embassy, but not limited to, in strengthening economic and institutional cooperation between Tanzania and Japan, among other related responsibilities.
The core responsibility of the position is to serve as a liaison between the Embassy and relevant Japanese institutions including government agencies, private sector organizations, academic institutions, local governments, civil society organizations, and the general public.
The Advisor will assist in promoting partnerships and cooperation in the areas of investment, trade, tourism, culture, education, and city-to-city cooperation between Tanzania and Japan. In addition, the Advisor will support the Embassy in ICT-related functions, including managing digital communication platforms, supporting online outreach and promotion activities, maintaining information systems, and facilitating the effective use of ICT.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake the following responsibilities:
1. Identify and maintain effective working relationships with relevant Japanese stakeholders including government institutions, business associations, companies, universities, municipalities, and cultural organizations.
2. Support the Embassy in promoting investment and trade opportunities in Tanzania to Japanese investors and companies.
3. Facilitate communication and cooperation between Tanzanian institutions and potential Japanese partners.
4. Assist in promoting Tanzania’s tourism potential to Japanese travel agencies, tourism organizations, and the public.
5. Support initiatives that strengthen educational exchange programs, academic cooperation, and cultural collaboration between Tanzania and Japan.
6. Promote city-to-city and local government cooperation between Tanzanian cities and Japanese municipalities.
7. Assist in organizing seminars, investment promotion events, cultural programs, and official visits involving Tanzanian and Japanese stakeholders.
8. Undertake analysis and prepare reports, briefs, and updates on opportunities relevant to Tanzania and Japan relations, including, among others, developments in relevant Japanese institutions, market trends, investment prospects, and emerging areas of cooperation.
9. Utilize Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools to enhance outreach, communication, digital promotion, and information management for Embassy activities.
10. Serve as an effective liaison to facilitate partnerships and collaboration between the Embassy and relevant Japanese stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
1. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in any Social Sciences’ field, International Relations, Public or Business Administration, Political Science, or other related field.
2. At least 05 years of relevant professional experience in economic cooperation, international relations, investment promotion, trade promotion, or related fields.
3. Strong knowledge of Japanese institutions, government structures, and business environment in Japan. Familiarity with Tanzania, including Tanzania culture and knowledge of the Kiswahili Language, will be a strong added advantage.
4. Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and partnership development.
5. Strong knowledge and practical skills in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) including digital communication tools, online platforms, and information management systems.
6. Excellent communication, writing and editing skills, presentation, networking, and interpersonal skills.

Language Requirements
• Proficiency in English and Japanese (both spoken and written) is required.
• Knowledge of Kiswahili Language will be a strong added advantage.

Personal Attributes
• Strong networking, organizational, analytical skills and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment, independently and manage multiple responsibilities effectively and under pressure.

Terms and Condition
• This is a full-time position based at the Embassy in Tokyo.
• The appointment will be for a two-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
