The Japan Tobacco - JT delegation, comprising Mr. Kensuke Watanabe, Director of International Affairs & Communications, and Mr. Ryo Hayakawa, met with Mr. Herman E. Berege, Chargé d’Affaires and Ms. Eugenia Mweusiumo, Counsellor, today 24th June,2026.

The meeting provided an opportunity for constructive and forward-looking discussions on Japan Tobacco’s global investment portfolio, including its operations and longstanding investment presence in Tanzania. The parties exchanged views on the evolving business and investment landscape, opportunities for expanding private sector participation, and prospects for further strengthening economic cooperation in support of Tanzania’s development priorities.

During the discussions, the Embassy briefed the delegation on upcoming strategic platforms for engagement and investment promotion, including the Nane Nane Agricultural Exhibition, scheduled to take place in August 2026, as well as the Tanzania–Japan Investment Mission planned for September 2026 in Japan. The mission is being coordinated by the United Nations Development Programme in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and relevant Tanzanian Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), with the objective of showcasing investment opportunities and strengthening commercial partnerships between the two countries.

The discussions further explored avenues for deepening collaboration between the Embassy and Japan Tobacco, with a view to fostering closer engagement, promoting mutually beneficial partnerships, and supporting initiatives that contribute to sustainable economic growth, agricultural value addition, and enhanced investment relations between the United Republic of Tanzania and Japan.
